What Villa Mira Monte is

What Villa Mira Monte is

Villa Mira Monte is a historic Morgan Hill estate whose central house reflects the city’s early history. The City of Morgan Hill says Hiram and Diana Morgan Hill built the house in 1884. The National Park Service describes it as a Queen Anne and Stick/Eastlake-style house, built by Hiram for Diana Murphy Hill in the 1880s.

The Hills sold the house in 1913. It later served as a private home, funeral parlor and antique shop before being deeded to the Morgan Hill Historical Society in 1992. After rehabilitation, it reopened in 1998. The property is in the National Register of Historic Places under reference number 78000777.

The Morgan Hill Historical Society operates and maintains the 2.5-acre site. Alongside the house, it includes the Morgan Hill Museum and the Centennial History Trail, making the grounds a small collection of historic places rather than a single building.
